Rates and season information
If you’re lucky enough to visit during turtle nesting season (May – September) you can enjoy Akumal and Xcacel for an evening “Turtle Walk”. What an amazing opportunity to see mother turtles building nests and laying their eggs, up to 150 of them! If you’re lucky enough to wit baby hatchlings emerge from their eggs in the sand and later released to the sea, consider yourself blessed by nature! Contact the turtle keepers in the beach hut building at Xcacel to arrange a nighttime turtle walk. The admission collected goes to turtle research, preservation and maintenance of the project. If you’re walking along many of the local beaches late at night or early morning, you’ll most likely get to encounter this incredible experience! There are some great beachfront restaurants where we’ve witnessed turtle sightings and nestings over dinner. Ziggy’s, La Zebra in Tulum are favorites to enjoy such an amazing evening as well as the beauty of an immense star-filled sky.
